Washington’s Water

Environmental Restoration

In our efforts to domesticate our lands and waters, we have inadvertently altered natural processes and degraded their original functions such as flood prevention and water quality protection.

For example, by cutting down streamside vegetation and filling in wetlands, we have affected the ability to provide fish and wildlife habitat as well as provide stream bank stability, reduce the risk of floods and protect water quality.

Environmental restoration tactics provide a means for remediating affected areas so they are able to resume their former roles in the water cycle of their community.
